Kalpana Saroj Is An Inspiration To Women Whose Voices Are Left Unheard
India is known for its culture across the world. This culture claims to worship women like goddesses. However, every year, millions of women in India have to go through domestic abuse at the hands of their husbands, or they’re in-laws. Kalpana Saroj was a victim of the same abuse. She was married to someone at the age of 12 and was abused physically and mentally by her in-laws. Her father, who was a police constable in Maharashtra, saved his daughter from this torture and took her back.
Kalpana Saroj’s Struggle and Rise.
When Kalpana Saroj got back to her home, she was ostracized by the villagers, and this ostracization pushed her to attempt suicide. But she did not succeed. When she became 16 years old, she went to live in Mumbai at her uncle’s place and started working at a garment factory to support herself.
Kalpana Saroj was fond of listening to the radio, and that was where she got to learn about the new schemes of government. It which supported a woman to start their own business. She took advantage of these schemes and forayed into independent ventures.
Where Does She Stand Now?
Kalpana Saroj acquired a near ending company called Kamani Tubes, and with her talents, she revived the company and is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. She actively promotes a program that encourages the employment of educated young people in India. In the year 2013, she was honored with Padma Shri award by the then President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee for her contributions in the field of business and entrepreneurship.
Kalpana Saroj is an example of strength, grit, and determination for those women who are enduring this torture and encourages them to rise up from their present situation.
