News portals are getting stormed with the latest verdict of up to one hundred and seventy-five years of imprisonment of the doctor of US Gymnastics team – Doctor Lawrence G. Nassar. He has been alleged to have molested several of the women patients under his treatment. Judge Rosemarie Aquilina has taken her decision on this case after a long hearing of seven days. Near about one hundred and fifty-six women gathered to testify against this predator in the court and many of them sent letters to the court to share their sad tales of being abused by his cannibalism. For aspiring students and many other women, this was more of a shock while for some this came as finally a sigh of relief after days of claustrophobia within one’s own self.
During the trial
It was estimated that the hearing would last as long as four days for it would take time for victims to come up with their stories, however, it had stretched till the second week and that itself is a proof to the intensity of the sufferance that they had gone through. The judge being a woman herself could not resist her woman instincts uttered that “It is my honor to sentence you because, sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again. Anywhere you walk, destruction would occur to those most vulnerable.” And she added, “I just signed your death warrant.”
During this trial, not only the seven girls whom he had molested was taken into consideration but also all those victims who had survived back in time were reflected upon. What was worse about this man was that he not only abused them physically but even in some cases emotionally leaving them shattered. He always had the basic cunning plan of making the women put their faith on to her and then eventually exploit them. Being jilted or betrayed by the man they had trusted on made their position weaker. The letters that were sent were filled with “pain, trauma and emotional destruction” of the victims. When asked whether or not he wants to plea, he refused the approach and accepted the unacceptable behavior that he has so long been guilty of. Rachael Denhollander who is one of the initial victims of this man is more than satisfied after the final verdict. In September 2016, she had suffered under Nassar and thought would never be able to talk about it in public eye. Later she said “The number of sexual assault victims Larry had was plain to me. Whether or not anyone was safe to come forward, that was the wild card.”
While the trial was on, a trend was observed in his choice of victim. None of them belonged to the elite class. Kyle Stephens was one of the first witnesses to have come who is a family friend of Nassar and was abused between six to twelve years. She came up and said, “Perhaps you have figured it out by now, but little girls don’t stay little forever.”
