One of the latest news that has made people astounded is China’s ban on tour groups from their nation making a visit to South Korea. The nation’s government has also implied upon the fact that their period of détente might soon be coming to an end. It is quite disturbing since these two are neighboring countries. This issue has also drawn our attention to existing complexities developing in north-east Asia. North-East Asia is believed to be the region of threatening conflict between North Korea and the US concerning the latest development of nuclear strategies by Pyongyang.
Where did it all start?
Recently Beijing had given its assent in ceasing severe economic retaliation over several organizations and companies in South Korea. After Seoul’s decision on hosting a missile shield operated by the US, China had shown their reflex action by ceasing the harshness on the companies. However, only two months after this incident it banned tour groups from visiting South Korea. It has further been confirmed by two tourist groups hailing from South Korea.
South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in had gone on a visit to one of China’s states. Officials named the visit as “new era” suggesting the attempt at re-bonding the relationship between the two nations. However, several unfortunate and embarrassing incidents took place during his visit which on the contrary ruined the rapport of the neighboring nations. One of them was the hospitalization of a South Korean journalist. There were fourteen journalists in the presidential press corps who was illegitimately stopped from following President Moon during his visit. The journalists reacted against this injustice and as a result of which about fifteen security guards came out violently. They ended up sending a photojournalist hailing from Handbook Ilbo newspaper out of the venue. Later, security guards turned more violent on a photographer from Maeil Business newspaper and were beaten up by them. In fact, neither President Moon nor Chinese President Xi Jinping made a clear statement about the mishap, therefore, emphasizing on the increasing gulf between the nations.
Further news on the tension
During last year October, South Korea had promised China against entering into a complete military treaty with either US or Japan. Also, the nation had promised not to test and install another of US’ missile batteries to protect them from North Korea. However, another fear lingers in the mind of the Chinese government which is whether or not South Korea will use the powerful radar to monitor the former’s military activities. Therefore, following the tensions and disagreement between the two nations, Chinese President has confirmed his decision on banning their citizens to go for vacations in South Korea. The applications of several travel group agencies to visit South Korea have been thereof rejected. Soon after President Moon left after his China tour, this announcement was done. China also feared South Korea’s ties with Washington as well as the presence of about 30,000 American troops in their nation.
With more than an issue existing between the two nations, no one is really sure about where exactly the two nations are planning.
